Why DeAccent?
More Than Just Conversation Practice
Many pronunciation and English lessons rely primarily on conversation and repetition. While speaking practice is important, lasting improvement begins with understanding how English actually works.

OUR APPROACH
A Structured, Linguistic-Based Curriculum
At DeAccent, you'll begin by learning the sound system of English - the foundation of natural pronunciation. Rather than simply correcting mistakes as they arise, you'll develop the skills to recognize, produce, and master the individual sounds in your target dialect - giving you a foundation that carries over into every conversation and every new word you encounter.
Personalized Coaching
No Two Students Learn the Same Way
Every student is different. Your native language, pronunciation patterns, learning style, and goals all shape the way you learn. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, every lesson is tailored to your individual needs while building on the same, carefully designed curriculum. Years of learning and teaching multiple languages have shaped an approach that helps identify the pronunciation challenges unique to your language background, making every lesson more focused, more efficient, and more effective.

The polyglot with an obsession for languages..

Hello there! I'm Ryan, a Canadian linguist, polyglot, and musician with a passion - some might even say an obsession - for languages. For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by languages and how differently people from around the world sound when speaking. This curiosity led me to study Linguistics at McGill University, where I specialized in phonetics and phonology and graduated top of my class with double minors in Russian and French.Over the years, I've taught American English pronunciation both online and in person, along with French, Spanish, and conversational Mandarin. I've also worked professionally in translation and interpretation - experiences that reinforced just how much pronunciation can shape the way we're understood. What eventually became clear to me is that many learners are never actually taught how English pronunciation works. Instead, they're expected to improve simply through conversation and repetition. That's what inspired me to create DeAccent - a structured, linguistics-based approach that helps students understand the sound system of English and build lasting pronunciation skills from the ground up.As someone who speaks sixteen languages and continues to learn new ones, I understand firsthand the challenges of hearing unfamiliar sounds, overcoming habits from your native language, and developing new ways of speaking. Chances are, I speak your language too - or at least understand many of the pronunciation patterns that come with it. Combined with years of teaching, perfect pitch as a musician, and a background in phonetics, this helps me notice and explain pronunciation differences that many learners - and even teachers - often overlook.Whether you're preparing for an audition, pursuing new career opportunities, or simply looking to sound more natural in everyday conversations, my goal is to give you the knowledge and tools to communicate with confidence and let your abilities speak for themselves!
